Meet Dave Hayer.
Dave Hayer is the Conservative Party of Canada candidate for MP for the Electoral District of Fleetwood-Port Kells. Dave lives in the riding and is proud to have called Surrey his home since 1972. He and his wife Isabelle raised their four children in the Fleetwood area of this beautiful city.
Dave attended Queen Elizabeth Secondary, SFU, UBC, Douglas College and BCIT, graduating with Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from SFU and a Strategic Leadership Certificate from the UBC.
Dave’s experience includes diverse volunteer work, private sector, all levels of government and with diverse multicultural communities.
Dave was MLA from May 2001 to May 2013 for the Fleetwood, Port Kells, Fraser Heights, Guildford and Tynehead areas. Dave was also Parliamentary Secretary for Multiculturalism and Immigration from 2005 to 2011.
After leaving his role as an MLA Dave joined CIBC and later Dominion Lending Centres, focusing on Residential Mortgages. Dave is also the Chairman of D&I Solutions.
Dave has also worked as a public accountant, assistant publisher and business manager.
Dave’s mission is to be your accessible, effective, honest, and reliable federal Member of Parliament to get things done for constituents.
He believes in building strong communities and has volunteered for many non-profit organizations for over 33 years, serving as President of Rotary Club of Surrey in 2019 & 1999, President of Surrey Crime Prevention Society 1995-1996, President of Surrey Board of Trade 1996-1997, Director on Kwantlen Polytechnic University Board 1999-2001, and director of many other non-profit organizations.
In 2008 Dave was selected by the Vancouver Sun as one of the 100 top most influential Canadians of South Asian descent making a difference in BC.
Dave is also a three-time recipient of the Paul Harris Award, presented by the Rotary Club of Surrey in recognition of exceptional service to the community and to the world.
Dave, the son of assassinated journalist Tara Singh Hayer, Editor & Publisher of the Indo Canadian Times, noted: “I will continue to work to recognize in our justice system the rights of victims, their families and for the rights for all law-abiding Canadians; I will continue to support Seniors, Veterans , Grandparents & Families; and will continue to advocate for small business and strong economic growth, job creation, healthcare, education, transportation, international trade, balanced budget, good environment and long-term prosperity for everyone. Dave has a solid background of service, a tremendous record of accomplishments for Surrey as an MLA, and a very impressive record as a strong business and community worker. As the MLA for Surrey – Tynehead, Dave ensured he was always available to meet with constituents, and every month without fail he held his “Coffee with Dave” open meetings to ensure constituents and anyone else had access to him to air their concerns, ask questions or seek his help.He was first elected the MLA for Surrey-Tynehead in May, 2001 following a candidate nomination win in 2000 over Surrey’s then-Mayor Doug McCallum. Dave went on to success in subsequent provincial elections in 2005 and 2009. As MLA for Surrey Tynehead, Dave served Fleetwood, Port Kells, Fraser Heights, Guildford and Tynehead areas for 12 years ( 2001 -2013).Dave was Parliamentary Secretary for Multiculturalism and Immigration from 2005 -2011, where he worked closely with the Attorney General of British Columbia and many other Ministers. Dave also served as Chair of the Surrey Caucus, Caucus Liaison with many Ministers, vice-chair of the Caucus Committee for Asian Economic Development, member of many Cabinet Committees. Dave is recipient of the Rotary International’s Paul Harris Fellow award in “recognition of exceptional service to the community and to the world”. In 2002 Dave was a recipient of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee medal, In 2008 Dave was selected by the Vancouver Sun as one of the top 100 most influential Canadians of South Asian descent making a difference in BC.

In 2007, Dave received a prestigious award from the Government of India. The Pravasi Bharatia Samman Award is annually given to people of Indian heritage, no longer living in India, who have achieved excellence in their chosen fields of endeavor. Dave was presented with the award by the President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, in New Delhi, India on January 9, 2007 for his active leadership in the community, his contributions to public service, for his achievements in government and for having been a strong voice in the Canadian community against terrorism and violence.

Before his election to public office, Dave was a Surrey businessperson, Accountant, Assistant Publisher of the Indo-Canadian Times, Kwantlen University Governor, real estate agent, and worked in the restaurant, newspaper, construction, transportation, finance, agricultural and forestry industries.Dave holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from SFU (1979-1982) as well as completing Executive Management, Taxation and Accounting courses at UBC Sauder School of Business, BCIT and Douglas College. Dave completed Strategic Leadership Certificate from UBC Sauder School of Business, Executive Management (2013-2014)

Some previous community and business involvements include the Rotary Club of Surrey president (1999-2000); Surrey Community Crime Prevention Society president (1995-96); Surrey Chamber of Commerce president (1996-97); Surrey Board of Trade Governor since 1997; BC Chamber of Commerce district director (1999-2001); Vancouver Board of Trade Small Business Council member (1995-2000); Indo-Canadian Business Association vice-president (1993-2000); Ethnic Press Association of BC director & vice-president (1991-99); City of Surrey Economic Development Strategy Advisory Committee member (1995-2000); South Fraser Child Development Centre Christmas Party chair (1988-2001); and Surrey & White Rock Home Support Association director (94-95); Simon Fraser University’s India Advisory Council member.As well, Dave created the Surrey Police Officer of the Year Awards and initiated the building of the Surrey Chamber of Commerce (now Surrey Board of Trade) Building. Some of Dave’s current community involvements include memberships in: the Rotary Club of Surrey, the Cloverdale Royal Canadian Legion, the Surrey Board of Trade and the Cloverdale District Chamber of Commerce.
IN RECOGNITION OF OUR BRAVE VETERANS.
Dave visited Pammunjom, South Korea in remembrance to the brave veterans who fought in the Korean War (1950-1953) during his visit to South Korea in February 2012, to pay his respects to the 26,000 Canadians who participated in that war, and especially to the 516 Canadians who died during that conflict.
Dave and his wife Isabelle Martinez Hayer, during a visit to Europe in 2013, toured a number of historic Canadian war memorials commemorating the heroic contributions of brave Canadians during the two world wars and to pay their respects to the many who fought and died there. SOME OF THE PROJECTS DAVE HELPED COMPLETE AS AN MLA INCLUDE:
Construction of the eight-storey Surrey Memorial Hospital Tower, including a vastly expanded Emergency Department.New 188,000 sq. ft. Jim Pattison Outpatient Hospital in Surrey.
New mental health & addiction facilities under construction next to SMH.
New seniors housing facilities, plus the opening of hundreds of new beds for low-income seniors and persons at risk of homelessness.
More than $ 3.5 billion invested in the Gateway Transportation program, the new 10-lane Port Mann Bridge, widening of Hwy # 1 to eight lanes to Langley and providing Rapid Bus Service that connects Langley commuters to all points north of the Fraser.
New 156th Street underpass, new overpasses, new bicycle and pedestrian overpasses.
Four-laning of 176th St (Highway 15) from the U.S. border to Highway #1 and four-laning of Fraser Highway
and four-laning of 56th Ave. (Highway 10).
New four-lane South Fraser Perimeter Road to take trucks off residential streets and speed up commercial traffic, an investment of $1.26 billion.
New Surrey Simon Fraser University Campus & Kwantlen University Trade & Technology Campus in Cloverdale.
Built new & expanded existing elementary & secondary schools, $30 million City Centre library and new artificial turf athletic fields.
Transferred 77 acres of land in Green Timbers to the City of Surrey for a permanent park.
Increased B.C.’s minimum wage to $10.25 hour and now BC has one of the lowest provincial income tax rates in Canada.
Dave has also provided more than $40,000 in Scholarships to students in seven senior secondary schools in Surrey since 2001.
